AOS, Syan’s powerful suite of tools for automating the operations of IBM iSeries
systems, provides a number of facilities for monitoring any aspect of iSeries operations
that could affect the smooth running of a MIMIX implementation
MIMIX, the world-leading solution for system availability, is renowned for being
a very stable and reliable solution. However, not everything on iSeries systems
is controlled by MIMIX and it is important to know that all aspects of an iSeries
infrastructure are running normally.
For example:
- Is there a backlog of transactions waiting to be applied to the backup system?
- Is there a backlog of transactions waiting to be sent to the backup system?
- Are any objects being held in the ‘delayed objects’ queue for too long?
- Are there any file/object errors, e.g. objects not journalled?
- Has the MIMIX library grown too large?
- Are the communications lines active?
- Are the MIMIX sub-systems active?
All of these things can be monitored using the standard MIMIX and OS/400 tools but
that relies on pro-active operator action. With AOS you can rest assured that all
essential elements of your system are being monitored all of the time and that you

AOS Health Checks
AOS System Manager incorporates a series of health checking functions that can provide
early warning of potential system problems. When a ‘health checker’
detects a potential problem it can automatically trigger a series of pre-defined
actions such as:
- Send a message to a user
- Call a program
- Execute a command
By linking AOS System Manager with AOS Pager Manager, you can also be alerted wherever
you are by SMS text message, by email or by pager.
The specific MIMIX Health Check function allows you to set thresholds on the send
and apply queues in terms of both the number of transactions in the queues and the
time transactions have been waiting in the queues.
